The other side SeEU there!

The other side SeEU there!
Youth exchange Nabeul, Tunisia 04 – 11 July 2019
About the project:
According to an assessment of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 55,001 migrants and refugees entered Europe by sea through 25 July 2018. That total compares to 111,753 at this time last year and over 250,000 in 2016.
Arrivals to Spain this month have overtaken those to Italy. To date just over 38 % of all Mediterranean irregular migrants have come via the Western Mediterranean route, whose irregular migration volume has more than tripled those registered at this time last year.
Arrivals to Italy trail Spain by almost 3,000, the gap was less than 200. Greece counts about 28 per cent of all arrivals. Significantly, Greece’s arrivals thus far in 2018 are running more than 5,000 ahead of last year’s totals on this date, an increase of better than 50 %.
Currently in Italy, new populist government has wasted no time in repeating its campaign promise to deport hundreds of thousands of migrants, although the financial, logistical and humanitarian implications of such an
undertaking are only now becoming clear. That’s why; both immigration and deportation have became key topics for debate in Italy, a country that has struggled to cope with the high number of migrants, both economic migrants and refugees, mainly from sub-Saharan Africa arriving on its shores in recent years.
While the European Commission plans to allocate additional funds to strengthen border control in Morocco and Tunisia in order to stop the flow of migrants to Spain, and Italy. Italian Interior Minister, Matteo Salvini, said he would visit Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria soon as part of a tour to combat illegal immigration. He revealed that his country would allocate one billion euros for economic projects and investments in agriculture, trade and fishing in the Maghreb and Sub-Saharan countries in Africa.
In this context we decided with our partners to set up the Youth Exchange “The other side SeEU there!” an Erasmus
+ mobility dedicated to participants interested in storytelling, new media, blogs, active citizenship to address a common issue between the two shores of the Mediterranean: Illegal immigration that has unfortunately became a dream of happiness for young Moroccans, Tunisians and Africans in general but, a nightmare for some Europeans. Our project will bring together 50 participants from 08 different countries (Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco), and will take place in NABEUL in Tunisia, addressing the theme of Illegal immigration through non-formal and informal education.
This youth exchange is designed and dedicated to participants interested in human rights and in particular illegal immigration, through storytelling, new media, blogs, active citizenship and non-formal education. Offering them the opportunity to exchange ideas and points of view, to work together, and to express themselves through different methods.
During 07 days, participants will face different challenges, meet new people with different backgrounds while sharing skills and developing new ones. At the end of this learning process, these newly acquired skills will be a basic building block for creating opportunities and exploring new opportunities on their way home.
We consider that in our project, self-reflection and non-formal education are key elements. Using non-formal education tools, participants will address the topic of Illegal immigration and human rights.
The idea of the project was developed during a workshop held by participants in last day of an Erasmus + mobility in Tunisia and during which the majority of the partners contributed to develop a partnership answering the needs of the young members of our respective associations.
The project came as a contribution of civil society to European Commission and governments efforts deployed to stop illegal immigrantion. As it will value the work of all those engaged in human projects and activities to work with immigrants, combat racism, xenophobia and discrimination as well as try to build a society based on multicultural and cultural integration.
Our exchange project perfectly meets the objectives of the Erasmus + program. Therefore, it’s main objective is to raise awareness of the different realities that surround us, in particular the importance of non-formal learning in improving respect for human rights.
objectives:
– To bring the public opinion to question the realities lived by the migrants and the refugees in order to change and have a new approach on this topic;
– create space for discussion, development of a reflection on issues of secrecy, Strengthen operational engagement and collaboration of civil society actors on the management of illegal immigration;
– build capacity, highlight skills and motivate participants to improve the quality of their intervention in society;
– And create a strategic partnership to boost and upgrade the quality of youth engagement on the local and Euro- Mediterranean level.
